The areas east of Phoenix should be familiar to folks who watch Westerns. Indeed, places such as the foreboding Superstition Mountain, which can be seen in this photo taken in the fall of 1999, feel almost like stage sets for movies of the American West. There is good reason for this, as many Westerns were filmed in and around this area. I took this photo from the beautiful (and historic) Apache Trail on a bright November day that reached about 90 degrees.
